We are looking forward to offering in-person group workshops
once it is safe to do so again.
Some of the more advanced workshops require additional
equipment and just cannot be offered virtually meanwhile.

IN-PERSON MÉTIS CULTURAL SKILLS WORKSHOPS
Workshops are delivered in a style reflective of the traditional beading circle format where friends and family would meet to share stories and talk about their day while passing on the traditional art of beadwork.
Learn another traditional method of beading using a device called a beading loom. This method involves weaving beads together in rows and columns creating a cloth like beaded fabric that can be used for bracelets, key chains, necklaces, sewn onto mukluks, bags or straps.
Four Hour In-Person Class
Prerequisite: Interest in beading and learning more about the Métis people.
Supplies included: 2 needles (long), beading thread, beading pattern, beads (3 colors),

This is the first of a series of workshops to understand the traditional method of using your fingers and wool to create sashes, belts, and straps. This historic technique was commonly used to create the iconic Métis sash.
Four Hour In-Person Class
Prerequisite: Interest in finger weaving and learning more about the Métis people.
Supplies included: wool, 2 sticks
Format: Workshops are delivered in a style reflective of the traditional beading circle format where friends and family meet to share stories and talk about their day while passing on the traditional art of beadwork.
Learn the basics of creating a simple quilt to build on it and create larger quilts for yourself and gifts for your friends and family.
Series of 3 Four-Hour In-Person Classes
Prerequisite: Interest in quilting and learning more about the Métis people.
Supplies included: pre-cut squares, fabric for backing, embroidery cotton and needle, quilt lining
Not included: sewing machine and thread, quilting frame (can be purchased, please contact Melanie)

Mitts are an essential part of life here in Canada and learning how to create your own can be a rewarding skill.
This workshop allows you the opportunity to create your very own pair to keep your fingers warm or to share the warmth by making them as a gift.

Learning to make moccasins was an essential skill to surviving. They were worn to protect your feet but also to maintain your connection to the earth. Creating a pair of moccasins takes time and caring thoughts of the person who will wear them. Wearing a pair of handmade moccasins is an honour.
